California Highway Patrol in Contra Costa rescues chihuahua stuck on the I-680 Freeway on Friday. According to the NY Daily News, the chihuahua got stuck on the highway median before the CHP came to its rescue. The dog was taken to Contra Costa Animal Services after the California Highway Patrol in Contra Costa rescued it.

The Daily Mail reports that California Highway Patrol in Contra Costa rescues chihuahua and tweeted about it on Friday. The officer from the CHP who tried to get the dog off the I-680 Freeway tweeted the image and captioned it: "This little dog needed some help off I-680 freeway today. We're glad he's safe. #CHP #Safe #Dog #DogTreats."

In response to the rescue, many Twitter users thanked the CHP for saving the small dog while others were curious where the dog came from. Another tweet was posted on Saturday by the Contra Costa patrol division after the California Highway Patrol in Contra Costa rescues chihuahua. They said that the female dog had already been taken to Contra Costa County Animal Control in Martinez. The Chihuahua is currently making recovery from the "traumatic experience".

According to NBC Bay Area, CHP officer Alex Edmond told them that he and his partner responded after police received two calls about the chihuahua. First was a call about a Chihuahua running in lanes on northbound I-680 just south of North Main Street. The second call was that the dog was sitting in the middle of the center-divide wall.

Edmon and his partner reportedly found the tiny dog on the highway's concrete center divider. Edmon told the station, "We attempted to coax it, we could tell it was very frightened, it was shaking - we were able to pet it a little bit, but other than that we could tell it was not happy." Edmon continued to tell the story of how the California Highway Patrol in Contra Costa rescues chihuahua. He said that the dog did not immediately react to his offer of trail mix. However, CBS San Francisco reports that she was eventually lured by a protein bar and was eventually taken by animal control. Animal control estimates that the dog is around two years old. There were no reported tags or injuries after she was rescued.

Animal control has already been inundated with calls for this particular dog because of the story, but don't be discouraged if you can't get this exact dog, look for other dogs out there." He said, "As of right now there are no witnesses that actually saw someone take the dog out of a car and leave it there."

He also informed that the CHP receives calls about dogs getting loose on the freeway on a weekly basis. He said that the event was "not uncommon at all." For the meantime, the chihuahua may have found a new owner, according to Daily Mail. Contra Costa Animal Services wrote on Saturday in their Facebook account. According to them, the dog was "recovering [...] after her traumatic experience. She may already have a home if her owner doesn't come for her!"

California Highway Patrol in Contra Costa rescues chihuahua and on Mother's Day, the dog seemed to be enjoying her newfound situation. Another Facebook announcement on Sunday by the Animal Services said, "She is starting to relax and come out of her shell. Today on Mother's day [sic], two of our wonderful kennel technicians spent their lunch socializing her and helping her overcome her fear."
