US warship Zumwalt christened by the US Navy on Saturday as the ship becomes another addition to the list of destroyers.

The newest class of destroyers is estimated to cost up to $3 billion and is equipped with advanced features. The 610-foot long destroyer has features that are extremely unique among other class destroyers. US warship Zumwalt's christening on Saturdays was led by the Zumwalt sisters.

A highly advanced kind of technology is being introduced in this new class destroyer together with its distinct features. As a combat ship, it is very helpful that the ship is not easily detected or seen by the enemies. The newly introduced warship actually features a design that minimizes its visibility to its enemy's radar.

Along with its costly budget which is about $3 billion, the destroyer has a composite deckhouse that has hidden radar and sensors. Its angular shape is the one responsible for its less visibility thus causing confusion on the radars. There is a huge chance that the US warship Zumwalt will be mistaken as a small boat and not revealing its real gigantic size.

The multi-mission ship which was designed to focus on land attacks is said to be the first US ship to use electric propulsion. In addition to its features is that it produce enough power to sustain a futuristic electromagnetic rail gun. This rail gun fires at a projectile of six to seven times the speed of sound an enough velocity to cause severe damage.

The US warship Zumwalt was named after the late Adm. Elmo "Bud" Zumwalt who became the youngest chief of naval operations in 1970. He also promoted the first female and African-American officers to admirals and opened the door for women to become naval aviators and serve on warships.

During its christening on Saturday, the event was attended by the late admiral's daughters, Mouzetta Zumwalt-Weathers and Ann Zumwalt who both christened the ship by smashing a bottle of Champagne near its bow. They were also joined by the admiral's son, retired Marine Lt. Col. Jim Zumwalt.

As the new-class destroyer with undeniable amazing features was introduced, it was also labeled as a modern marvel. The ship has been under construction since 2009 under Bath Iron Works.

"This ship is a modern marvel, and it's going to take smart and creative and hardworking sailors like Bud Zumwalt to operate it," Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus said.
