When the White House opened up its We the People project, it was probably hoping to connect with citizens over substantive issues of public policy. But now, the Obama administration will have to respond to calls to deport pop star Justin Bieber, who was recently arrested for alleged drag racing and driving under the influence.

The We the People initiative is a website launched under President Barack Obama to give "all Americans a way to engage their government on the issues that matter to them." Under the self-imposed terms of the project, if a petition musters 100,000 signatures within 30 days the White House must respond to it.

Mother Jones has confirmed with a White House press aide that the petition has indeed met the threshold and a response to calls that the Canadian pop star be given the boot is forthcoming from the Obama administration.

The petition, titled "Deport Justin Bieber and Revoke his Green Card", states that:

We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nations youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.

The 19-year-old was arrested last week in Miami on charges of DUI, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license after he was pulled over by police who suspected him of drag racing. The Miami Herald reports Bieber has entered a plea of not guilty. Although the paper reports that a breathalyzer test indicated that his blood alcohol was under the legal limit in Florida, toxicology reports found that he had marijuana and Xanax in his system.

The teen heartthrob's slide into scandal began last year, when it was reported that Bieber was to be prosecuted for spitting in his neighbor's face. His neighbor's gripe with Bieber? Driving aggressively.
