Stephen Hawking Dead 2014 became top news for quite a while because of an internet death hoax in Facebook earlier this week.

However, on Jan. 29, the hoax was denied by the scientist's representatives when they officially confirmed that Stephen Hawking is alive and well.

Among the statements was this: "He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet"

The "death" news started spreading Tuesday after a Facebook page named 'R.I.P. Stephen Hawking' went on to attract over a million likes.

This caused quite a flurry of concern amongst fans of the scientist and a click on the page's description reads:

"At about 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday (January 28, 2014), our beloved scientist Stephen Hawking passed away. Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 in Oxford. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."

This is a very believable sketch, making any fan believe the news to be true. Fan condolences started pouring in after. People expressed their sentiments and sadness, and even took to Twitter for further expression.

However, not everyone believed the news and there were still scepticisms about the report, since there have been a fairly large amount of hoax deaths reported in the internet on famous celebrities.

Many sceptics researched but didn't see any major British Network report on the incident. Many fans have expressed their anger over the issue saying it was "reckless, distressing and hurtful" to them.

While others saw this as a reflection of Stephen Hawking's extreme popularity across the globe, a poll from Celebrity Post shows that a vast majority think that the death rumours about the scientist are not funny anymore.
