"If you die and go to hell, Satan will bring you there on a Spirit Airlines flight," said one of the many unhappy Spirit Airlines customers of the company's Yelp Chicago page. While the seemingly budget-friendly airline is seeing spikes in its stock price and accolades for its clever "Marijuana Marketing," it appears that the airline is leaving customers much to be desired.

Spirit Airlines is known as America's "ultra-budget" airline. With this distinction, the airline also finds itself the lone American airline company with a 2-star rating on airlineequality.com.

According to Spirit Airlines, the company flies to 52 destinations domestically as well as the Caribbean, Central America and South America....that is if your flight does not get cancelled. Multiple Yelp reviews mention flights that were erroneously cancelled with little to no background information as to a reason why, "I had two flight delays and then a cancelation of said flight. Called company to pay for the taxi that I needed to get me to a hotel for next-day flight. Guess what? They wouldn't reimburse. They lost our bags...on a flight that NEVER TOOK OFF. How does that happen? No one knew where they disappeared to. I imagine that the bags were scared to get packed into a Spirit airplane and ran away."

Most yelp reviewers admit that you get what you pay for with Spirit Airlines. With Spring Break fast approaching, here are some tips to ensure you survive your Spirit Airlines experience.

  1. Bring water and snacks on the plane, if you want them from Spirit Airlines, it will cost you.
  2. Check in online at home and print your boarding pass.
  3. Pay attention to the strict dimensions for carry-on items. Owners of bags deemed too large will be charged at the gates.
  4. Gates close 45 minutes before departure. Get to the airport early.
