Etihad Airways will soon have a fleet of nannies available to attend to children on flights, according to the Associated Foreign Press. The nannies will be available to help calm irritable children as well as irritable passengers.

Etihad Airways is based in the United Arab Emirates. They announced the launch of their new service, Flying Nanny, this week. It will consist of an in-flight nursery that will be staffed by flight attendants who are nannies that were trained at Norland, a childcare nursing college in England.

The flight attendants that are nannies will be discernible from other flight attendants by the orange aprons they will wear. They will be available to passengers on long-haul flights when they will entertain children that are unsettled and fidgety or bored through the use of hand puppets, art activities, games, origami and face painting.

The nannies will also be available to assist parents with putting overtired children to bed, providing advice and support to parents who would like helpful tips on managing children during long-flights.

The nanny flight attendants will also have goodie bags containing games and stickers that will be available to unaccompanied minors and other young children.

The service is not intended to be a substitute baby-sitting service, however. The airline addresses this through a disclaimer that reads, "...we can't take them off your hands completely, as we must cater to the needs of every family onboard."

Etihad Airways posted the announcement about the new nanny service on their Facebook page on September 1. It has been met with positive reception, receiving more than 3,540 likes and being shared more than 670 times.

The new service follows the launch of childfree cabins on both the budget Singapore airline Scoot as well as the Malaysian airline Air Asia X.

Etihad Airways is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, according to their website.
