Burger King has started to sell a $1 "French Fry Burger." The burger will have French fries on top of the hamburger patty and will be available starting next week on Sept. 1. The burger also contains a standard patty and regular toppings and is 360 calories and 19 grams of fat.

"In an attempt to compete with McDonald's Dollar Menu -- revamped last December for a second time in 2012 -- the French Fry Burger is poised to attract customers due to its low price point. It is part of a larger strategy to combat sagging profits -- losses not only experienced by Burger King, but also last year by McDonald's and Wendy's," reported Yahoo.com.

One New Yorker Germain Berrios, said to The New York Post,

"I would order it for curiosity's sake, just to see what it's like. I've done it before - have the burger and just put the fries on top . . . Why not just skip a step and charge a little more for it, you know?"

McDonald's also recently revamped their Dollar Menu and sold items like Grilled Onion Cheddar Burgers and Fish McBites.

The new $1 items at McDonalds has prompted Burger King and Wendys to up their game on items. Burger King has also recently offered any two sandwiches for $5 and a Junior Whopper for just $1.29.

"It's not clear whether the strategy will pay off for the chains, or what impact it could have on wearing away at profit margins over the long term. But in the latest quarter, Burger King said its sales at North American restaurants open at least a year slipped 0.5 percent. Wendy's reported an anemic 0.4 percent rise, while McDonald's reported a 1 percent increase for U.S. restaurants. The metric is an important indicator of health because it strips out the impact of newly opened and closed locations," reported ABC News.
