Travelettes is an online magazine that hopes to inspire a new generation of female globetrotters, according to NBC News. The motto of the magazine is "backpacking in heels."

The online magazine was founded by Katja Hentschel, who travels about seven months out of the year. She wants to encourage other women to travel by hearing the stories on her web site and through conversations with women she meets along the way on her adventures.

"I definitely feel like we're on our way to having what I like to think of as a bit of a movement: girls embracing the idea that it's cool to travel, to travel alone and to be a Travelette - a girl who has an open mind, who wants to go out and see the world and is out there to explore and conquer," Hentschel, 31, told NBC.

There are 10 Travelettes who contribute to the blog. They come from different countries and have different backgrounds. They look for unique places to go on there travels, as well as cool things to do and stylish adventures to experience, Hentschel said. The goal of the group is to represent all women and serve as role models.

"It can be scary and intimidating, but once you do it you realize how much you can achieve," Sophie Saint, a Travelette who often travels independently and has already been to Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia.

Both women talk about the benefits of traveling alone.

"It tends to be more intense," Hentschel said. "I have stronger memories of the actual trip, whereas when I travel with someone, I have stronger memories of just my relationship with the person I traveled with."

Saint added that it's normal to feel nervous, but traveling alone makes you more open to meeting new people.

"Be active, be proactive, go traveling and go see the world," Hentschel said. "Because I find it's such a huge part of becoming who you are."
