Katherine Heigl, who is best known for her role as Izzie Stevens on "Grey's Anatomy" is interested in returning to television, according to TVLine.

She is looking to star in an hour long drama series that would both star in and produce. NBC, as well as other networks, are currently negotiating with her for the project, according to sources that spoke to USA Today.

The series will be written by Alexi Hawley, who has previously worked as a writer and producer on the television shows "Body of Proof" and "Castle." Hawley's background would suggest the series might have a procedural aspect, which would be a departure from the medical soap opera that gave Heigl her big break.

Heigl appeared on "Grey's Anatomy" from 2005 until the show's sixth season, which aired in January 2010. She then left the show because she wanted to spend more time with her daughter, Naleigh.

Last year, Heigl expressed interest in returning to "Grey's Anatomy, though it never transpired. Heigl left the show under less than ideal conditions, after making public comments that offended some of the shows writers, as well as creator and show runner Shonda Rhimes.

"On some level it stung, and on some level I was not surprised," Rhimes told TVLine. "When people show you who they are, believe them."

Heigl ended up doing an interview with Entertainment Weekly to apologize for her statements.

"If they want me to return for an arc, I would love to know where Izzie is now," she told TVLine. "It's been a couple of years."

She has also starred in numerous films, including the hugely successful "Knocked Up," as well as a string of far less successful films, such as "27 Dresses," "Killers," "Life As We Know It," "The Ugly Truth" and "One for the Money."

If a network picks up the series, it would likely appear in the 2014-2015 season.
