For the first time in 39 years, Al Roker overslept, causing him to miss his early morning show on the Weather Channel, "Waking Up With Al," according to E! Online.

"After 39 years, it happened," Roker tweeted at 5:41 a.m. on August 6. "I overslept and missed a show.

"Missed #WUWA," he continued. "But will be on time for @today."

Showing a sense of humor about the situation, Roker also posted a Vine video of himself yawning as he arrived at the set of the "Today" show.

"Morning, Sleepyhead," he tweeted. "Overslept and missed #WUWA Here on time for TODAY."

The show demonstrated a sense of humor about the incident, sending out their own tweet.

"@alroker joking this morning that he's going to change #WUWA to, 'Al Wake Up!!!'" the show tweeted, adding," #oversleeping."

During the show, "Today" hosts Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer joined in on the fun, calling it "Almageddon," with Lauer captioning a picture posted on Twitter with "Rip van Roker."

Roker saw that his oversleeping was trending on Twitter and asked followers to share their own stories of oversleeping with him.

During the show, cohost Natalie Morales asked Roker what happened. He said his alarm failed.

"Well, just, you know...my phone didn't go off and somebody said, 'What's your backup?' and I said, 'For 39 years I didn't need one,'" Roker answered.

Lauer's tweet also caused confusion, as he later said some of his followers wrote back asking if he meant "RIP" as rest in peace. Oops!

"They thought it was RIP Al Roker...but that's not what it said," Lauer explained. "If you read it carefully, that's not what it said."

Guthrie added, "It's just a deep sleep."

After all the fuss, Roker will likely start using a backup now. He certainly won't want to oversleep and miss the show again!
