He asked for it and he finally got it--a trade between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs sees the disgruntled, former-starting QB, Alex Smith, head to Arrowhead Stadium.

ESPN confirms the trade and further reports that Kansas City will trade its second-round pick in the 2013 draft -- the second selection (No. 34 overall) in the round -- as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014 to acquire Smith.

However, since the trade cannot be officially announced until March 12, the San Jose Mercury News, has sources telling them that the 49ers could wait for someone else to up the ante.

Assuming the trade does go through, it would give the Chiefs (who ended the 2012 season with the worst record, at 2-14), the ability to cut current starting QB, Matt Cassel, and allow the newly hired ex-Philadelphia Eagles' coach, Andy Reid, to start a fresh with the No.1 overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft.

The trade will also help Smith, 28, who had a 6-2-1 record as a starter last season, completing a career-high 70.2 percent of his passes for 1,737 yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions (states taken from ESPN), get some much-needed playing time after having to concede his place as the starter to Colin Kaepernick, who helped San Francisco reach the Super Bowl, where the 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

As for the reaction of his, now, former teammates, left tackle Joe Staley, one of Smith's closest friends on the team, said in a text to ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder that he was happy the quarterback will get a chance to play with his trade to Kansas City.

"I am happy he is going to get a shot to play somewhere. He is too talented not to. Will miss him on our squad but will still be close wherever he goes. Happy for his new opportunity," he wrote in the text.

Tight end Vernon Davis, who developed a great on-field chemistry with Smith in the team's passing game, also wished the quarterback the best with his new team in another text to Werder.

"I will miss him dearly and wish him the best as he starts something new," he wrote. "I'm sure everything will work in his favor. He is definitely a great player who I strongly believe had a big impact on my career. Love you Alex!"
