Countless of travelers head to Europe each year for a variety of reasons. Many make the trip to marvel at the architectural wonders found throughout the continent.
Those heading to Slovenia, particularly the capital city of Ljubljana, will not have any shortage of architectural sites to visit and take countless photos of. This is because the works of famed Slovene architect, Jože Plečnik, are located in the capital.
Here are some examples:
Ljubljana Central Market
According to Visit Ljubljana, the city's City Market consists of an open-air market, a covered market, and a series of small food shops located along the river. These small food shops are located in a colonnade designed by the famed architect between 1940 and 1944.
Because of this, the area is also referred to as Plečnik's Covered Market. This two-storey covered market hall follows the curve of the river and is also home to a small fish market.
National and University Library of Slovenia
Considered as the architect's most important work in Slovenia, the National and University Library was built between 1936 and 1941. It now stands on the former site of a 17th-century Baroque palace that was destroyed in the earthquake of 1895.
The National and University Library is on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List.

Plečnik House
Believe it or not, you can actually visit Plečnik's own home in order to enjoy his architectural style. The home has been kept exactly how it was when he was still alive. The architect died in 1957 and even received a state funeral.
The Plečnik House is comprised of two houses and an adjacent garden. Inside, you will a permanent exhibit that includes the architect's sketches, models, and even photographs of his works. His original furniture and library can still likewise be found inside the home.
Triple Bridge
As its name suggests, the Triple Bridge consists of three bridges. However, the first bridge has been there since 1842. The two side bridges were added between 1929 and 1932 by Plečnik.
The Triple Bridge was renovated in 1992, and it is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List since August 2021.
