Not a stranger to handcuffs, actress, civil rights activists and Fox News contributor, Daryl Hannah, was arrest and detained on Feb. 13, along with 50 other people--climate scientist James Hansen, civil rights leader Julian Bond and environmental advocate Robert Kennedy Jr, amongst the 50, for handcuffing themselves to the gates of the White House to demand that Barack Obama shut down the Keystone XL pipeline project.

Pipeline supporters - the Canadian government (due to the pipeline coming down from Alberta, Canada. Meaning, they have the most to gain), the oil industry and a large swath of the country--argue that it will create jobs and shore up supplies of North American energy. Pipeline opponents say the project will unlock vast stores of carbon, overwhelming Obama's other efforts to cut emissions that cause climate change," according to The Guardian

"You can't really parcel it out," said Hannah. "You need to have a full-scale approach if you really want to be serious about addressing climate change," according to The Guardian.

During the protest, Hannah and other protesters wearing "No KXL" buttons chanted, "Hey, Obama, we don't want no climate drama," and "Barack Obama, yes you can stop the dirty pipeline plan." President Obama was at his post-State Union address trip in North Carolina at the time of the protest, reported Examiner.

This basic grass-root cause has turned into a mainstream protest over the past 18 months gathering supporters from across the environmental movement. "On Wednesday the Sierra Club, the biggest mass environmental group, broke a 120-year tradition and authorized its president, Michael Brune, to risk arrest to voice their shared opinion," reported The Guardian.

Protesters last year forced Obama to call a halt to the project, because of concerns about the pipeline's proposed route through ecologically sensitive areas of Nebraska. Now opponents are thinking they have a chance of shutting down the project completely - if they can make a show of force. Obama is due to make his decision later this year," stated The Guardian

"I think this helps him because he is getting tremendous pressure from the energy industry which puts more money into the political process than any other entity," said Robert Kennedy Jr. "They have all the money on their side, but we have the intensity on our side. I think the longer we can delay it the less likely it is to happen," The Guardian.

According the the Hollywood Reporter Hannah was released, later that same day, in time to visit Sean Hannity, on FOX News. On "Hannity," the host showed a video of Hannah being handcuffed, and quipped, "So you got out of jail in time."

Hannity, insinuating that this isn't the first time Hannah has been arrest, reminded his audience about the promise he made the last time Hannah appeared on the show.

"Last time you were on the program, I said I would bail you out of jail. I tried to do it the last time you were arrested, and I wasn't able to. So how do I bail you out?," reported Examiner.

"That's because my bail was too big last time. Now you only owe me a hundred bucks," Hannah said, according to Examiner.

Another activist rally is scheduled for Presidents Day weekend, reported Examiner.
