Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Prince Harry started the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon by pressing a big red color button. They were standing at the mile 22 refreshment station and cheered every runner that passed by.

The Royal trio has been seen giving the much-needed support to the runners during the marathon from the sidelines. For instance, they handed over the water bottles and encouraged them by clapping. In addition to this, they were also seen hugging people and Middleton was donning a foam finger during the marathon.

As they were handing out water to thirsty runners, some of them sprayed it on The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The incident did not appear to amuse Middleton as some of the water got dropped on her fleece, reported Mirror.

Despite getting squirted with water, the enthusiasm of the trio did not reduce. They were seen continuously boosting the spirit of the runners who are running to finish the 26 miles race. Elsewhere, the marathon received a great response as some of the 39,000 people took the opportunity to shake hands with the Royal trio.

Daniel Wanjiru (Kenya) emerged victorious at the London marathon in men's elite race. Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia won the second place. On the other hand, Kenyan Mary Keitany has won the race in women's only section, reported BBC.

The runner-up spot has been achieved by Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia. With this victory, Keitany, 35 years old, has successfully beat Paula Radcliffe's women's only world record. She beat Radcliffe's record by 41 seconds, as per aforementioned source.

Several fans took to social media sites such as Twitter to post their unique selfies with the Royal trio. Their mental heal foundation, Heads Together has been the official charity this year, reported Entertainment Tonight. Perhaps, this is why the London marathon has been a special event for them.
