Are "Sherlock" fans going to see a new set of actors playing the main cast in the next season of the show? Because of its popularity, viewers of the show have been clamoring for more episodes even though it was only in January of this year that the latest episodes were aired.

Telegraph UK reports that series creator Steve Moffatt stated that there will definitely be no "Sherlock" in the near future and he cited his co-creator Mark Gatiss and main actors Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch as the reason. It seems that they are all big on quality and are perfectionists.

According to Moffatt, the three are very specific with regards to quality control. They are all open to doing more seasons of the show. They obviously enjoy filming and always have a great time creating stories for the series. But he says that they will only do a new season if they feel that the quality of the episodes will up to par with the previous seasons.

This means that they will only revisit the idea of a new season when they have a good enough premise. Aside from that, the actors of the series, which started in 2010, find themselves very busy with their respective careers at the moment.

He was asked if he would consider recasting the main characters of Sherlock and Dr. Watson so that they can continue filming, but according to RTE, he has never and will never consider it. He considers Freeman and Cumberbatch as irreplaceable.

He says that viewers that can admire everything that comes together to form a good production such as cinematography, direction, and writing. But ultimately, it's the characters and the people playing them that viewers come to love as they watch the series.

Is he right in saying this? Do you think that "Sherlock" will not be the same if the characters will be played by different actors? Share your thoughts and comments below.
