Spring is here, which means that the weather is pleasant enough for a couple of hours of wading and swimming in your favorite beach, which might also mean that a trip to the beach means over-packed crowds, a noisy atmosphere, and a not too good a promise of a pleasant sunbathing spot. So why not go to a lake instead?

The US is full of majestic lakes, and there are plenty of activities you can enjoy in a lake vacation much like what you find on a beach. Bring your friends and family and embark on a pleasant lake vacation this year, you wouldn't be running out of choices. Here are some of the best lake vacations in the US.

Crater Lake, Oregon. Scuba diving is not just for beaches, you know. Here at Crater Lake, you'll get to enjoy a magnificent view of a flooded volcano; and in its crystal-clear waters, lava formations, local fish species such as trout and salmon as well as beautiful moss meadows will flood your senses as you lose track of time diving in this beautiful lake. Also, did you know that this is the deepest lake in the US?

Big Bear Lake, Southern California. This popular vacation spot earned its reputation for being a pleasant choice for countless water activities. You can do wakeboarding, kayaking, and parasailing, and in between, you can roast smores and hotdogs in a makeshift bonfire by the shore. The rugged terrain in the area is also popular for off-road four-wheeler tours.

Lake Kabetogama, Minnesota. Enjoy a peaceful campout with loved ones at Lake Kabetogama. With over two dozen campsites that can only be reached by boat, you'll feel that you're one with nature with the background music of crickets, the pleasant passing of the winds through the trees, the magnificent view of the forest around you, and the constant shining of the stars.

Table Rock Lake, Missouri. This lake offers 800 miles of shorelines for its visitors, created by the number of the winding arms it has as a flood control measure in a result of the creation of a dam nearby during the 1950's. It's a perfect spot if you want to spend a couple days lounging around but doesn't want to give up comfort. The lakefront has a number of cabins and resorts perfect for families and small gatherings.
