The Japanese manga series by Yū Sasuga and illustrated by Kenichi Tachibana has some bad news for fans. "Terra Formars" will go on hiatus due to Sasuga's health issues. But don't be too sad just yet, because it is reported that the manga will try resume sometime in autumn.

"Terra Formars" is serialized in Shueisha's magazine "Weekly Young Jump," ever since 2011. According to Anime News Network, the magazine's editing staff is hoping to resume the manga this fall. The hiatus will start on March 9.

Additionally, the 21st compiled book volume of the manga has been delayed indefinitely, Crunchyroll said. The original release date was set on May 19, and pre-orders for the limited edition volume have been halted as well. The limited edition was said to include an original anime DVD, and all previous pre-orders have been cancelled. It is not yet known as when specifically the manga will return, and any updates will just be posted in the manga's official Twitter account.

"Terra Formars" released two original video animations (OVAs) which were released in 2014, and an animated TV series was also shown during the same year. The manga is immensely popular, and placed number one on the "2013 Kono Manga ga Sugoi!" By 2015, the series had sold 13 million copies. The series has also inspired five spin-off manga. A live-action film adaptation was released in 2016 and was directed by Takashi Miike.

The plot of "Terra Formars" is about 21st century scientists who attempt to colonize Mars, and these scientists are tasked to wam up the planet so that humans can survive on its surface. The plan was to send cockroaches and mold to the surface so that the mold would absorb the sunlight and the corpse of the insects, but in 2577, the first manned ship landed on Mars, only to find out that the plant has giant mutated humanoid cockroaches.
