Piloting an airplane is no easy task. Pilots are first trained hard and very intensely so that they can adapt to any kind of situation. There are, however, airports around the world with landing strips that look so dangerous; it's amazing how some pilots could manage to land in them. Take a look at some of the scariest airport landing strips in the world:

Ice Runway, Antarctica. What makes this runway so dangerous is that the landing strip is purely made of ice and snow. It's slippery, and there are no paved runways. Only the best pilots could manage to land an airplane here.

Barra Eoligarry Airport, Traigh Mhòr, Scotland. This airport surely belongs to this list as their runways are mostly the sandy beach of the Barra Island. There are three runways, and the runway to use is chosen based on the wind direction.

Courchevel International Airport, France. With the snowy Alp Mountains surrounding the runway, pilots have to first navigate the whole mountainous while in inclined angles just to slow down when touching down at the airport. The runway is also very short, just over 525 meters long.

Gibraltar Airport, Gibraltar. This airport runway is particularly interesting yet scary at the same time as it cuts and intersects right through Winston Churchill Avenue, therefore closing the busy street when the airport is in use. It was first used as an emergency airfield by the British Navy before it was converted to commercial use.

Wellington International Airport, New Zealand. The views surrounding the whole runway at this airport may be picturesque for some, but when you actually think about it, the 6,351-foot runway starts and ends right in the ocean, making it actually really dangerous.

Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Nepal. Those who wish to brave Mt. Everest have to use this airport, and to land here is one scary feat. The runway's one end is preceded by high terrain, but the other ends in a 2,000-foot drop. The cloud cover and high winds surrounding the area also make this airport very dangerous.
