From just being a regular fan of the show, pop star icon Rihanna joined the cast of "Bates Motel" for its fifth season. And it's not just a cameo, Rihanna will play the character of Marion Crane, a role made famous by Janet Leigh. Executive producers of the show revealed how the singer-songwriter got into the character.

Rihanna first expressed her admiration of the show on Vanity Fair. When executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kehry Erin first read of Rihanna's fandom on the VF article, the showrunners did not second-thought to reached out to the singer.

Furthermore, the casts of "Bates Motel" are delighted with the eight-time Grammy Award-winning singer's presence in the set. According to them, the singer walked in on set and with smile calling them by their character names. Nestor Carbonell, the director who also plays as Sheriff Alex Romero on the series says, " I love that she kept calling me Sheriff Romero. That was really fun".

Rihanna's character will be of the same background. Marion Crane's character is based on the film "Psycho". An unhappy woman who steals money from his boss who will soon checks in into the "Bates Motel" where she will cross path with her killer and the motel owner Norman Bates. However, the production team tried a different approach and deviates from the original "iconic role". The executives' goal, according to Entertainment Weekly,  is to give a new version of Marion Crane.

As for Rihanna's physical transformation, the production team said their approach is to make the star looks like a "regular woman who is working in a regular job". In addition, Erin also further added, "...we wanted to make her (Rihanna) blend into the show and feel like a real part of it. "

The producers are aware that Rihanna has quite a busy schedule, apart from being a singer-songwriter, the star just comes off of shooting from "Ocean's Eight". But the executives promised that the presence of Rihanna's character will be hefty in this season.

"Bates Motel" is a contemporary horror-drama series inspired by the film "Psycho". The series centers on a teenage Norman Bates and his intricate relationship with his mother Norma Bates. The show is currently in its fifth season and airs on A&E network.
