Warner Bros shocked us with another surprising move engaging on early talks with the actor-director, Mel Gibson in directing the sequel of the box office hit "Suicide Squad". This step surprised many considering that the famed director lambasted the studio's other movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". The series was originally directed by David Ayer however, he is occupied at the moment with another DC movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros is courting Mel Gibson to helm the sequel of their hit DC movie "Suicide Squad". No confirmations or commitments are finalized and Gibson is familiarizing himself with the material. The studio is also considering other directors as of the moment and the short list includes Ruben Fleischer of "Zombieland", Daniel Espinosa of "Safe House" and Jonathan Levine who directed "Warm Bodies".

As of now, there are no frontrunners among the mentioned names and the list may grow upon the studio's demands. David Ayer directed the initial release and he may be given another chance to direct the sequel after the production for "Gotham Sirens" which is another DC movie focusing on female villains of DC Universe.

In contrast with their rival studio, DC Films are struggling to get their cinematic universe on the right track. "Suicide Squad" was shredded by critics though earning $325.1 million domestically and $745.6 million worldwide as reported by Game Spot. Ben Affleck also dropped on directing the standalone "Batman" film to be replaced by Matt Reeves. In summary, the franchise is in a creative redirection phase and Gibson is a weird choice to uplift the series.

There is no question to Gibson's skill as evident with his latest film "Hacksaw Ridge" getting 6 Academy Award nominations including Best Director and Best Picture. He is also flooded with offers from big studios and indies to be part of their production. He has also confirmed a role in the "Daddy's Home" sequel together with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.
