It can be recalled that Ben Affleck controversially stepped down as the director of the upcoming standalone "Batman" movie last January. He claimed that portraying the character demands extreme passion and directing at the same time will prove to be too much of a burden even for him. That being said, Warner Bros immediately went to seek a replacement and director Matt Reeves came up as the top pick for the job.

Writer and director Matt Reeves are currently in talks to take over the massive projects. He is popularly known as the director of the latest "Planet of the Apes" installment taking over after Rupert Wyatt on "The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes". He also helmed the movie "Cloverfield" for J.J. Abrams showing his abilities on directing action movies on both macro and micro scale.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves impressive background to sci-fi movies will mean that the new DC flick will be neither grounded nor too realistic. Though Affleck will not be directing anymore, he would still play a huge part on the project aside from starring and producing it. He has also written the script for the film together with Geoff Johns with tweaking form the Oscar winner Chris Terrio.

Assuming that Reeves will be on the project and the script done, the only problem that will be left is when will the film start production. Filming was initially scheduled in May as reported by Variety; however it can change to give Affleck a quick break after the hectic movies of 2016. Though it may be pushed back further this year, it is sure that the production will start within this year and will aim a 2019 release.

Deathstroke was confirmed to be the main villain for the film and will be played by Joe Manganiello. This is definitely a big project for Reeves and though he directed action movies before, this will be the first time that he will venture to the comic book realm.
