Misha Collins is dead. At least that's what the Internet is saying. However the "Supernatural" actor didn't die. He's just the latest victim of an internet death hoax.

A report by Global Associated News started going around about Collins' death this week.

The report reads:

"Actor Misha Collins died while filming a movie in New Zealand early this morning - December 3, 2012

Preliminary reports from New Zealand Police officials indicate that the actor fell more than 60 feet to his death on the Kauri Cliffs while on-set. Specific details are not yet available.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m."

Being that Collins is an actor, it might be easy to believe that he was filming a movie, but he definitely didn't fall 60 feet to his death.Global Associated News creates fake news reports.  A message at the bottom of the site reads: "FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes!"

Collins is just fine.

However the rumors became a bit more real when the website Showmasters posted the news of Collins' death on their Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Upon seeing that, fans of Collins thought it might really be true. The began to question and mourn his death. Some tweets include:

"JUST READ SOMEWHERE THAT MISHA COLLINS HAS DIED? IS IT TRUE COS I AM WEEPING SO MUCH PLEASE DON'T BE TRUE"

"Is Misha Collins really dead or is it just an hoax?? I'm lost since @Showmasters posted about it !"

"Is this some crazy joke that I'm hearing about the fact Misha Collins has died?! If it is then its not funny."

Many of his fans knew that it couldn't be true though. They quickly caught on to the fact that it was a death hoax and Showmasters has since deleted their updates on the actor's death.

Celebrity death hoaxes have become a trend this year on the internet. Global Associated News is often the source of many death hoaxes, but they are also started on social media sites.

Some other celebrities who became victims of a death hoax in recent months include professional skateboarder Tony Hawk,  actor Vin Diesel, musician Skrillex, Rapper Lil Wayne, Actor Vince Vaughn, Tom Kenny, the voice behind SpongeBob Squarepants, country singer Taylor Swift, legendary actor Morgan Freeman, Comedian Bill CosbyAlfonso Ribeiro aka Carlton from the Fresh Prince, and Bill Nye the Science Guy.
