After speculations of a contract renewal worth $200 million with the Sacramento Kings, there are now reports suggesting that Demarcus will be moving to the Phoenix Suns in a trade deal in time for the 2017 NBA trade deadline. What will the Kings be acquiring in return for Cousins?
According to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports, the trade will involve center Alex Len, small forward T.J. Warren, the 2017 first-round pick from the Suns, and possibly more. A first-round draft pick would mean that the Kings have the opportunity to acquire a much needed lead point guard from the 2017 draft class. Among the talented point guards in this year's draft class are Washington's Markelle Fultz, and UCLA's Lonzo Ball.
Gambadoro also clarified that the Suns' Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker will not be involved in the reported trade. Cousins and Bledsoe used to be in the same team at the University of Kentucky.
Cousins is currently fourth in NBA scoring with an average of 28.4 points per game along with 10.6 rebounds. Cousins and Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans are the only players to average at least 24 points and 10 rebounds in the past two seasons.
Cousins has been one of the most popular subjects in trade rumors. Speculations suggest that Cousins' contract along with the Kings' lackluster performance in the season will cause the All-star big man to leave Sacramento.
The Kings will be playing on the road against the Suns on Saturday at the Golden 1 Center. Sacramento is at 19-29, three games behind the Denver Nuggets for the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
Earlier this year, Kellan Olson of Arizona Sports predicted how a Cousins trade could look like. Do you think the deal will push through? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
