Supercell will end support for "Clash of Clans" on iOS devices with OS versions lower than iOS 7. Unfortunately, because of technical reasons beyond their control, the developers will have to stop supporting all Apple devices using iOS versions lower than 7.x with the next coming update.

The developer has decided to discontinue support for older iOS versions probably due to their technical limitations. Likely, in order to add more features to the game, the developers must rely on new features included in newer versions of iOS.

According to the official "Clash of Clans" blog, players will need to upgrade their OS to iOS version 7.x or higher as soon as possible so that they may continue playing. Unless they have updated to iOS 7.x or higher they will not be able to play "Clash of Clans". This is also applicable if the device can not be updated to iOS 7.x or higher.

There are five types of Apple devices which can not upgrade to iOS 7 or higher. These are the iPhone 3G and 3GS, iPod Touch 3rd and 4th generation, and the very first iPad. These devices will no longer be able to play Clash of Clans with the next update.

There are eight kinds of Apple devices which shipped with a lower iOS version than 7.x but can update to iOS 7 or higher. These are the iPhone 4, 4S and 5, iPad 2, 3 and 4, iPod Touch 5th generation, and the first iPad mini. These devices will still be able to play Clash of Clans but they must be updated to iOS 7 or higher in order to do that.

Technology website Neurogadget reported that an optional update for the game was recently released by Supercell. The game was given major improvements in its gaming experience with the update.

Through a process of streamlining memory, the update improves performance of the game on older phones and devices. The recent update shows that Supercell had done all they could to improve "Clash of Clans" on older devices before they could no longer add new features due to all the limitations of the legacy OS.
