After finally ending the last season in 2015, there were assumptions that "Rick and Morty" Season 3 would return on either late 2016 or early in 2017 for its third season but up to this date, no episodes had been aired. Fans had been so hungry for its return in order to take more adventures with the popular grandpa-grandson relationship.

However, during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Dan Harmon being the co-creator of the series spoke at the IndieWire Event where he threw the blame of the delays of the show's airing into the creative complications between him and Justin Roiland, Comic Book reported. According to Harmon, their misunderstanding has made the series taking too long to write.

Harmon said that both of them had fights most of the time. Despite the fact that they had already shown sneak peeks way back December, still he cannot give a tentative plan for this series to return on air. He emphasized  during his talk in the festival that he do not know yet the release date of season 3 since they're having hard time producing the next season due to their differences issues. He is even tight-lipped on the details of the third season that is yet to air.

According to Collider, Harmon has finally addressed the delay at Sundance Festival. Some animations for the next season was shown but there will be also certain reconstruction in the real-life court. The two has yet to finish the story very soon.

In other words, the series was late and there is no other word to express the reason of its delay, Harmon added. However for the avid fans of "Rick and Morty" season 3, the good thing about it is that they are working on it and on its issue and the show is presumably to return this year.
