"Krampus" Director Michael Dougherty has now been appointed as the official "Godzilla 2" director. It is going to be the next installment for this famous monster movie. The upcoming sequel would be "Godzilla: King of Monster" which will helm on March 2019. Aside from directing the upcoming movie, he will also co-write the screen play.

He has already been announced officially as co-writer and director way back October. However, it was during those times where the job largely depended on the Legendary's approval. Lately, it has been confirmed by Gamespot that Dougherty has already signed as the official director of the movie. The sequel is set to air on March 22, 2019.

It has been known that he also previously directed the Christmas-themed horror movie "Krampus" and at the same time, the acclaimed Halloween anthology, "Trick R' Treat". Being a writer, he has been working with Bryan Singer's super hero movies like "X-Men 2" and "Superman Returns". This movie is already part of Legendary's on-going big monster movie like "Kong: Skull Island" which is set to air on March in theatres.

It was in October 2015 when Legendary and Warner Bros. had made a joint announcement about these future films that they are going to developed and distribute. The news first came out that Dougherty and his co-writer Zach Shields will be keeping the sequel but they will only write and not direct on it. However, after months of work, Legendary finally offered him to direct the film, Variety reported.

Dougherty has been known for having strong connections with Legendary for being the writer of other films which has also include the Legendary's first production. "Godzilla 2"which will air on March 2019 will have a next sequel of "Godzilla vs. Kong" which is also planned to air on May 29, 2020.
