If you thought getting a message from your ex was bad, wait until you receive one that can cause your iPhone to suddenly crash. This apparent glitch was highlighted in a YouTube video uploaded by the channel EverythingApplePro. The video has been viewed more than 1 million times ever since it got uploaded on January 17, 2017.

The glitch works by typing in a white flag emoji followed by the number "0", and a rainbow emoji. It apparently confuses iOS 10 whenever it tries to combine the rainbow emoji with the white flag. The video explains that sending this combination of emojis to an iPhone running an older version of iOS 10 will cause it to freeze as soon as it receives the text message. What's worse is the recipient doesn't even have to open the message to make the phone crash.

According to CNET, sending and creating this text is not as simple as it looks, and iPhones that run on the latest version of iOS 10 will not be affected. People who do receive this shady text shouldn't worry too much as their phones will either unfreeze after a while or simply restart. While it is a rather annoying glitch, iPhone owners can breathe a sigh of relief knowing it won't completely destroy their phones and render them useless.

According to a report from USA Today, the issue was first spotted by a French iOS developer named Vincent Desmurs. The newspaper conducted tests on iPhones and iPads operating on iOS 8.4 to 10.2, and all of them crashed upon receiving the text message. Further tests also showed that the string of emojis only appears to affect iOS devices as the text did not appear to have any effect on a phone running on Android version 7.0.

The bug has been around for a few weeks now, but only started making headlines a few days ago. The good news is it will not affect the phone's data or compromise your personal messages.
