The Nintendo NY store will open preorders for the Nintendo Switch the morning after Nintendo's press event. It will be the first retail store to announce preorders.

According to the gaming website Polygon, the announcement of the upcoming availability of Nintendo Switch preorders comes before the live stream event that Nintendo will be holding. According to the Twitter account of Nintendo's New York City retail store, customers can start pre-ordering the Nintendo Switch on January 13.

The tweet from the account of the Nintendo NY store said that only a limited quantity of preorders for the Nintendo Switch will begin on 1/13 at 9 AM while supplies last at the store. The location of the Nintendo NY store is at 10 Rockefeller Plaza.

Fans should arrive much earlier than the 9 AM schedule to be able to put money down for the eagerly awaited console. There will probably be more people in line than the number of preorders allotted so people at the front of the queue will have a better chance at snagging a preorder.

Gaming website GameSpot reported that the announcement of the retail outlet did not mention how limited the quantity of preorders would be. Game consoles usually sell out upon launch. This is especially true for Nintendo consoles.

The number of Nintendo Switch consoles available is predicted to be limited. The initial limited availability of the Nintendo Switch and the track record of Nintendo lowers expectations that they can ship enough consoles to meet demand. The perfect example is the NES Classic Edition which still sells out anytime it is back in stock even if it has been two months since its launch.

The Nintendo NY store is the first store confirmed to start taking preorders. There is thus far, no word yet on when preorders will be opened up by other major retailers.

Nintendo's console is scheduled to be launched this March. Consensus reports have the base price of the Nintendo Switch to be around $250.
