Florida, the Sunshine State has hundreds of miles of beaches, some of them regarded among the best in the world. It ranges from the Atlantic Ocean waves on Florida's East Coast up to the powdery white sand of one of the Gulf Coast barrier islands along the west. Here are some of the best affordable beach hotels to stay when in Florida:

The North Beach Camp Resort in St. Augustine is a 30-acre campsite on a barrier island between a wild Atlantic beach and a calmer beach on the saltwater Tolomoto river. It is a picturesque campground, with spacious tent and RV sites dotted among palms and moss-laded oaks, battered into different shapes by the winds and providing shade, according to The Guardian. One-and two-bed cabins have swing chairs, large decks and king-sized barbecues. There's a basketball area, shuffleboard, pool, horseshoes, and a fishing dock.

Families love the three pools, shuffleboard, volleyball, and other fun and games, and the homemade breakfast doughnuts have become legendary at Perry's Ocean Edge Resort in Daytona Beach. Most suites have kitchens and family suites have separate bunk-bed rooms for the kids.

Most of its 200-plus rooms have sea views. Daytona Beach is one of the few beaches in the world that you can legally drive on. Daytona gets crowded during the spring break and for the Daytona 500, but the rest of the year it's a laid back family friendly place, where Perry's has become a much-treasured institution.

Pier House 60 Marina Hotel in Clearwater Beach is right across the road from the beach. Its 10th-floor rooftop bar has already earned a reputation as the best place to watch the sun set. Watch the nightly street entertainers on the pier, or try the seafood favourites at Frenchy's Rockaway Grill.

Just a mile away is the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, home of Winter the dolphin, the star of a hit movie. Winter had lost her tail when she was caught in a crab trap line, but was rescued by the aquarium and now swims with a prosthetic one.
