The Tower of Terror is now forever closed. Disney's Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has taken its final plunge before it gets a Marvel Studio makeover.

Fans of the Disney California Adventure ride came in to enjoy the attraction on January 2, its last day of service as a "Twilight Zone" ride. Reportedly, the cast members were busy Monday dealing with long lines with wait times of more than two hours. The tower, which launched in 2004, received visitors with the voice of "Twilight Zone" creator Rod Serling, greeting them to the mock Hollywood Tower Hotel as they were strapped into seats and charged down an elevator shaft. Marvel's producer Kevin Feige publicized that the tower would be changing to a "Guardians of the Galaxy" theme when it reopens this summer, says NBC.

The shuttering of The Tower of Terror was memorialized with a special, 13th Hour ticketed event. It began at 10 pm on January 1, and finished at 1 am on January 2, the attraction's final day of operation. This event bragged the regular version of the and as the pronouncement for the posh event encouraged; guests turned out the part of the Golden Age and put on their best fedoras, furs, and bellhop fashions.

Meanwhile, the Tower of Terror will be transformed into a "Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout!" ride that offers a similar experience. It will feature guests helping Rocket the raccoon intoned by Bradley Cooper in the film, save his Guardians friends from The Collector's display cases. Like the original ride, this one is described as getting a breathtaking free-fall sensation with visual and audio effects infused.

Moreover, lovers of '70s music will be pleased to know that the attraction's 1930s tunes, will now be replaced by songs featured in the film. "Mission: Breakout!" is set to launch simultaneously with the summer 2017 release of the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, say Fox News.
