The release date for Stormblood, the next expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, has been revealed. It will be launching in June next year.

During the Final Fantasy Fanfest event, the previously announced release date for the game's second expansion pack was confirmed. Gaming website GameSpot reported that, according to Square Enix, Stormblood will be released on June 20 of next year.

The June schedule affirms the earlier announced launch date for the new expansion. Square Enix revealed back in October that the expansion would launch in the summer of 2017.

Even if the release of Stormblood is half a year away, there is information about the expansion that has been uncovered. Details of the expansion were revealed at the Final Fantasy Fanfest in Japan along the Christmas holidays.

According to gaming website PC Gamer, some of the information covered at the Fanfest event confirms what was previously announced. Stormblood takes place in the subjugated empire of Ala Mhigo. Players will have to face off once more against the Golden Empire. They will also have to do battle with a villain named Zenos.

A full standalone game's worth of content will be included in the new expansion. The previous expansion, Heavensward, was the first expansion for Final Fantasy 14. Stormblood will be as big as Heavensward.

The game's second expansion will be adding two new classes to the game. In the game, classes are referred to as jobs. The first job was announced to be a Red Mage while the second one will be announced near the release of the expansion. Players have speculated that the second job maybe a Blue Mage or, less likely, a samurai. It will include underwater environments as well. The addition of swimming and diving to Stormblood will provide a new way for players to explore.

A new raid developed by the man behind Final Fantasy Tactics will be added together with a new eight-person raid. There will be new Primals and dungeons. A fourth residential area will be included.

There will be improvements to combat and inventory. Players will have access to larger set of abilities instead of being limited to abilities restricted to a specific class. The inventory will be expanded so that there will be more space to store items. The game's user interface was also adjusted to make it more intuitive and easier to use.

The expansion will be released for the PC and PS4. The PlayStation 3 is no longer supported. Final Fantasy XIV was never released for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 so Stormblood will not be available on those platforms.
