Ben & Jerry's known for its creative ice cream concoctions such as Half Baked which contains chocolate and vanilla ice cream mixed with fudge brownies and chocolate chip cookie dough. Ice cream lovers wait in anticipation for the company to announce a new flavor and yesterday, Ben & Jerry's announced their limited edition Cannoli ice cream.

The concoction includes mascarpone ice cream with fudge covered cannoli pieces and a mascarpone swirl. It will be available for three to four months in the U.S. and is hitting grocery stores now.

In the past Ben & Jerry's has created a Holy Cannoli ice cream but this one is a bit different.  Holy Cannoli was created in 1997 and had pistachio ice cream, ricotta, chocolate covered cannoli pieces and roasted pistachio and was taken off the market the same year. They said on their Facebook page, "We made a cannoli flavor with ricotta before and it bombed. It was called Holy Cannoli. This is a new take on it and we think it tastes better than Holy Cannoli did. We hope you do too!"

"Now in front of the pearly gates, Holy Cannoli sits and waits.  What brought its ruin no one knows, it must have been the pistachios." Reads Holy Cannoli's gravestone t the Ben & Jerry's flavor graveyard in Vermont.

Liz Stewart, spokesperson for Ben & Jerry's said to The Huffington Post, "Whenever we develop a new flavor, we start with a big, sky's-the-limit idea and narrow it down from there. So, before Holy Cannoli was Holy Cannoli years ago, we had LOTS of different batches of what we thought a cannoli-flavored ice cream might taste like. Putting out a different cannoli ice cream flavor is our chance to show our fans just how much we love playing with our food: we love it so much that we don't just stop at one final flavor!"

When the cannoli ice cream goes off the market in January, a new secret flavor will be revealed.
