Sandals Royal Caribbean resort in Jamaica has opened the first over-water villas in the Caribbean on December 2, 2016. It is the first of its kind in this area of high tides and strong water current.

Most tourists and honeymooners go to Maldives or Bora Bora to experience the luxurious vacation in over-water bungalows and suites. Some may deem it unnecessary, but there's just something about sleeping on top of crystal clear turquoise water that brings about relaxation and romance to everyone. Although the Caribbean is covered with white sand beaches and pristine sea, it is almost impossible to create these kinds of bungalows. But, not anymore. The Sandals Royal Caribbean resort had successfully made it possible in the midst of environmental issues and possibilities of hurricanes because of the natural breakwater somewhere off-shore.

The Sandals is located in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Its over-water villas are located just five minutes away from the main resort, and a short walk away from its private island, through the walkway which links the two. The resort boasts to have five of the over-water bungalows, with 12 more coming in February 2017. These 17 villas will be constructed to give a heart-shape, which can be seen when one flies over the resort. Photos of the resort are shared by AZ Central.

For guests, this is surely a luxurious private getaway. A private island at bay; A private water taxi ride to your private villa; Aprivate butler serving you welcoming drinks and snacks on your private deck. But, how much does one villa actually costs? USA Today gave us an idea of the price, which starts at $2,870 per room of two occupants per night. While the newer, but smaller, villas are expected to be priced at $1,263 per person per night.

Wow, that sounds a lot! But not for luxurious travelers though. Reservations of the villas are actually almost full throughout 2017 until the middle of 2018! Luxury travel is indeed a trend now in the tourism industry. The Sandals Royal Caribbean resort has clearly tried to compete with other tourist-flocking places that offer over-water bungalows, and they have succeeded.
