We turn to Google Maps for convenience, rather than using that huge travel guide the airport personnel gave to us. But now that the weather during cold months, either rain or snow, is sullying our internet signal or mobile data, it's hard to reach for our Google Maps info.

But thank Google, you can use and search for directions on the Map offline. This has been going on for months, but we would like to remind you in case you're all panicking on how to get to your journey's end.

But before traveling to your dream destination, connect to the internet and search the place for yourself. After searching for your desired location, click the More button and select download. As simple as that, you can use the Google Maps just like you normally do.

Managing offline areas consists of seeing a list of your offline areas, deleting offline areas, renaming areas you've downloaded for offline use and updating offline areas which all can be found in the Menu section.

However, as omnipotent Google may be, you can only get driving directions offline, not transit, bicycle, or walking directions. Another limitation is in your driving directions. You won't be receiving traffic info, alternate routes, or lane guidance. You also can't change routes like avoiding tolls or ferries.

So, you better take all info before going to your trip. It's much the same. Making Google Maps offline something you can glance in a while as a reminder of where to go and how to get there.

And to save cell data and battery life, from all that glancing, use "Wi-Fi only" mode. In this mode, when you're not connected to Wi-Fi, Google Maps will only use data from the offline areas that you've downloaded. But you have to download these offline areas first.
