An announcement was made regarding Ys Origin at PSX 2016. Ys Origin was revealed to be coming to the Sony PlayStation 4. The game will also be available for the PlayStation Vita. It will be released for both the PS4 and PS Vita early next year.

DotEmu, developer and publisher specializing in modern releases of beloved retro games, made the announcement on the game's release. According to gaming website IGN, the announcement was made during opening ceremony of PSX 2016. Ys Origin on the PS4 and Vita will include new languages and features. The new language options are French, Italian, German and Spanish.

The soundtrack will also make it worth buying. Players will be able to purchase the game starting February 21, 2017. The Japanese language version of Ys Origin is the original version. This was released in Japan for Windows in 2006.

It took another six years for the game to be released on the PC in the West. Ys Origin has been available on Steam since 2012. The Steam release was followed later by a release on GOG. Ys Origin is meant to be a prequel to the rest of the Ys series. The game is set 700 years before Ys 1: Ancient Ys Vanished.

DotEmu has stated that the versions of Ys Origin for the Sony PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita will contain various extra features. Gaming website Destructoid reported that aside from the new language options, the publisher has not provided any details on the additional features. The company also did not reveal any information on the pricing of the game. The PC version cost $20 when it was released in 2012.
