There is no question that the internet has become pretty huge over the years and people simply cannot live without some form of internet access be it on their phones or laptop computers. Year 2016 can simply be described as the year of the routers because they are, surprisingly enough, the year's top tech products. Google has decided to continue to this trend by releasing the aptly named Google WiFi.

Google WiFi is a multipoint router system that shares a good number of similarities with Eero. According to the search engine giant, the router is a product of three and a half years' of research and development. This is not the first time Google has released a router though. Last year, they released the OnHub which received favourable reviews.

So what makes Google WiFi different from the previous router? According to a report by The Verge, the router is made directly by Google themselves and will make use of both cloud-based intelligence and intelligent design to ensure that users will always receive a strong signal throughout their homes, regardless of the home's size. Google has designed the product in a manner that will make it easy to setup with a smartphone, and can be managed remotely.

The router is priced at $129 each, but can also be bought as a three-pack for $299. Google says that one router is enough to cover around 1,500 square feet. Customers have the option of adding more routers to extend their coverage area.

According to Google's support page, the router does not collect any user data such as what sites you have visited. It is programmed to only collect app, network, and hardware related information, but this feature can be disabled in the Privacy settings. The only drawback Google WiFi has so far is it does not have any customizable settings or advanced features. However, with its broad coverage range and fast internet speed, Google WiFi is definitely worth spending on.
