The phenomenal "Game of Thrones" series may soon come to its end after HBO confirmed that Season 8 will be its last. Loyal viewers of the show are longing for a prequel to make sense of the numerous flashbacks being shown in some episodes.

HBO programming president, Casey Bloys revealed that there's an ongoing talks for a possible prequel of "Game of Thrones." Brainstorming between Bloys and show creator George R.R Martin regarding "Game of Thrones" prequel ideas is still in progress, as reported by News Everyday.

According to the article, it is still pretty early to put into paper anything discussed by Bloys and Martin about the show's prequel ideas. The HBO programming president praised Martin for creating the incredible world of "Game of Thrones" with such great propriety and noted that it is insane not to explore the idea of having a prequel. Bloys added that they still need to pinpoint which time frame in the Westeros history where the possible spinoff can take place.

The potential series preceding "Game of Thrones" will most likely not include D.B. Weiss and David Benioff anymore. Since, the current showrunners are not as interested to create a series prequel in the same "universe".

There are reports claiming that Weiss and Benioff are thinking about wrapping up the installment with only 13 episodes. The showrunners told Variety, Season 7 will comprise seven episodes while season 8 will only have six. The short run will allow them to spend more time on each episode and sustain the creative delivery given the minimal amount of story content remaining.

For the last two episodes of Season 8, there are rumors of these being released in cinemas as a movie, which is something that the show's creator Martin and other people from the series has lobbied for, according to Entertainment Weekly. However, HBO insiders suggested that it is far from happening due to the network's preference of serving its subscribers. Are you excited for the possible prequel? If ever, which part of Westeros history will they focus on?
