It has been months since XCOM 2 first arrived on the PC but the game finally has the controller support that many players have been seeking. The first XCOM in the rebooted series of the franchise, was released in 2012 and included excellent controller support that turned out to be a pleasant surprise for players.

According to gaming websites PC Gamer, Polygon, and GameSpot, when XCOM 2 was released on the PC, controller support was very noticeably absent. Several months after the launch of the science-fiction-themed turn-based strategy game in February, controller support has now been included for Linux, Windows PC and Mac through the latest patch released by XCOM 2 developer Firaxis.

Firaxis refers to the patch as Patch 7. It allows the game to support the use of both Xbox One and Xbox 360 controllers as standard while other controllers may need additional user adjustments to be playable.

A post on the official site of XCOM 2 mentions that Firaxis has been hard at work designing the interface specifically for controllers so that it gives a comfortable and accessible experience that players expect. Patch 7 includes some minor bug fixes, a little quality of life adjustments, as well as opening the possibility of total conversion mods.

Additionally, a special video showcasing a newly unlocked feature was released by Creative director Jake Solomon. The latest update allows players to move around Avenger, the mobile headquarters of XCOM 2, in first-person view. This is made possible by the modding versatility of the game combined with the newly enabled controller support.

Players can access a first-person floating camera by opening the game's developer debug mode using the XCOM 2 console. They can tour inside the XCOM mobile base, drink a beer in the commissary and get an up-close look at the contents of the trophy case of the Commander. Detailed instructions to access the first-person view can be found on the XCOM offical website.
