A trademark listing for a video game titled "Need for Speed Arena" has shown up in Europe. Need for Speed publisher Electronic Arts has filed for a trademark registration with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. The new trademark is for what appears to be a new game in EA's "Need for Speed" racing franchise. The trademark was applied for on November 7 by EA.

The details on the application page show that the trademark is registered for 'computer game software', 'downloadable computer game software', 'video game software' and providing an 'on-line computer game' service. There isn't much more information available on the EUIPO website although once the trademark application has been approved, more details should be provided, according to gaming websites GameSpotDestructoid, and VG247.

Although not every registered trademark results in a product launch, if "Need for Speed Arena" gets a release date, the game would be the only title released in the NFS franchise since 2015. Ghost Games was the developer of the last two NFS games which were "Need for Speed: Rivals" in 2013 and "Need for Speed" in 2015.

"Ghost Games" revealed in a May 2016 blog post, that it was continuing the franchise. They mentioned that it was working on the next title in the series which would be ready by 2017. The studio mentioned that since the release of Need for Speed in November 2015, they've been humbled by all the support from the players of the game. They are now building on the foundations laid by "Need for Speed" to deliver the next game in 2017. There aren't any NFS games scheduled to be released in 2016. There is a possibility that the next game that will be released in 2017 will be Need for Speed Arena but it could also end up being just a mobile game.
