India is home to a series of wildlife and sanctuaries that are open to travelers who hope to see and experience a little bit of the wild. The sanctuaries also house several reserves of tigers, lion, elephants, birds, and other animals that are considered endemic and endangered.

Here is a list of the best sanctuaries in India that offer tour packages.

1.       Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala

The Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary covers a total of 55 sq km area of various vegetation that houses endemic and endangered animals. Some of the animals that can be seen here are elephants, gaur, sambar, spotted deer, barking deer, nilgiri langur, hanuman langur, and the malabar giant squirrel (or Indian giant squirrel).

Once you have the permit to enter via vehicle, be on the lookout for these animals and drive carefully to avoid accidents.

2.       Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary houses thirteen reserved forests that conserved several tiger and elephant strongholds to help them from extinction.

The sanctuary also houses tribes which makes man-to-animal competition unavoidable and it has been one of the perennial problems of the Protected Area.

The sanctuary also serves as the best environment for Asiatic elephants and has the world's largest record of living Asiatic elephants.

3.       Kaziranga National Park

Located in Assam, Kaziranga National Park gained recognition for conserving endangered animals, one of which is the one horned Indian rhinoceros. Kaziranga is a World Heritage Site that holds the record of conserving the world's largest population of the one horned Indian rhinoceros.

The National Park also has a Tiger Reserve which aims to conserve endangered Indian elephants and tigers such as Royal Bengal and Indian Tigers.

4.       Jim Corbett Park

Jim Corbett Park is a division of the Corbett Tiger Reserve that is located at the Nainital district. They offer tour packages where tourists get to ride an elephant, watch the tigers roam the land, have a night stay inside the Corbett, and see different species of birds.

They also offer the Jeep Safari in Corbett where wildlife travelers get to ride a roofless jeep with the guides while roaming the rocky path of the safari.

5.       Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary

The Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is trying to conserve Asiatic lions, and is one of the best habitats for the lions. Their website states that according to 2015 statistice, the entire Saurashtra region is inhabited by 523 lions and more than 300 leopards. 

The park is also acknowledged as an important bird area by the Indian Bird Conservation Network as it houses a total of 200 species of birds.
