Valve has updated the design of its Steam storefront. Valve refers to the redesign as Discover Update 2.0. The refresh of the storefront is noted as the second iteration of changes made to the platform. It references the first update that was released in 2014.

The Steam store update was reported by gaming websites IGN, GameSpot, Kotaku, Gamasutra, and DestructoidThe revamp made by Valve brought new features and a new look to the online store. It gave Steam a fresh coat of paint and new functionality. Discovery Update 2.0 slightly changes the front page. The new storefront is still similar to the old front page but with a some key alterations. The difference is obvious if you have visited Steam regularly recently.

The update does not bring to Steam's ecosystem anything new of significance but it does refine what is already there. According to Valve, the refresh has introduced several new features, tools, and added functionality. Redesigning the storefront is an attempt to give more control to users over which games are displayed to them as they are browsing Steam. The revamp provides powerful new preference options that should make it quicker and easier to find what is important to Steam users. The update should show them more what they like and less what to avoid.

The direction of Valve's changes can be summed up by the reminders that Steam shows users, to keep scrolling for more recommendations. Users can manually search for games or view top sellers on the Steam charts but they are enticed and encouraged to look at more of the personalized recommendations, they just have to keep scrolling. The refresh of the front page also lightly alters the role that curators play within the Steam ecosystem. There is now expanded support for curators. The update now also gives easier access to friends activity.
