This couple traveled 29,500 miles through 39 states in 103 days and has set the world record for the longest road trip in one country. Greg Cayea and Heather Thompson easily beat the last record of 22,406.66 miles set in India last April.

Starting their trip in Tempe, Arizona on September 20, they also stopped by 22 national parks, with their favorites being Yellowstone, Zion and Crater Lake. According to Fox News, they also got to visit unusual tourist attractions such as South Dakota's outdoor animal safaris and a lonely ghost town in Idaho named Bayhorse. When asked, Cayea says that the most scenic road they had driven on was Beartooth Pass which featured views of lakes and melted glaciers.

Cayea tells Travel and Leisure that, "being on the road has been such a big part of my life," which is why the two decided to set a world record before doing their big move to Philadelphia. "Every chance I could, I would get on the road, because that's where I felt most at home."

The couple are funding their trip through Cayea's travel book "No Direction Home: The Drifter Chronicles Volume One".

They planned their record-breaking trip well, making a set of rules to follow, including taking no roundtrips, no backtracking more than 10% of total mileage, recording every stop with at least 10 minutes of video footage per day, keeping a log book. In addition, they had to be extremely careful not to cross country borders, to make their trip hold true.

While on the road, the couple say that the lifestyle is quite comfortable, having done barbecue dinners in national parks that offer grills, parking in truck stops and rest stops, and loading up on groceries in Walmart. The two have even parked in rest stops and supermarket parking lots and have prepped their mattress at the back of their car while watching Netflix.

Currently, the couple is headed to the Hudson Valley of New York, and it is expected that they will be on the road for one more month.
