November is the calm before the storm, when most hotels, resorts and tourists destinations are getting ready for the Christmas holidays, without getting quite so busy and crowded yet. This time of the year also sees good weather for hotter areas and a lot of good pre-peak season deals. Here are some of the best places to visit in November.

1. Memphis, Tennessee

According to Travel and Leisure, the American South is hot all year-round but in November, the weather is balmy enough to explore America's southern college town. Known for blues and barbecue, this city also features green spaces, amazing restaurants and the National Civil Rights Museum, perfect to visit before the election.

Travelers can even opt to stay at the Guest House at Graceland, to live like Elvis in his hometown in the 450-room colonial style mansion designed by Priscilla Presely.

2. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Known for its July food festival that has given this colonial town a good image in cuisine, but great bars, restaurants and food halls are open all year round and are more enjoyable in the cool November air than in the humid July sun. Mexican celebrity chef Enrique Olvera has his restaurant here, Moxi, and many other establishments in the area are favored by many restaurateurs.

3. Florida Keys

Nicknamed the 'Sunshine State', maximum temperatures in Florida during November reach only 27 degrees Celsius - perfect for enjoying sunny days along its 1,350 miles of pristine white sand beach. Cities such as Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville sit along these coastlines, while Orlando, closer to its interior, features a host of theme parks, waiting to be visited in the sunny, yet cool November weather.

4. Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

According to Telegraph, the best places to hit here are Cancun and Chichen Itza. Cancun, purpose-built as a luxury hotspot features the best resorts and beach hotels, and fabulous views of the Caribbean Sea.

On the other hand, Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba are all iconic Mayan sites that reflect past civilizations that existed tens of thousands of years ago.

5. Toronto, Canada

Just a road trip away, travelers should take advantage of how weak the Canadian dollar is recently to the American dollar. In addition, hotel prices and airfares drop, while restaurant reservations are left open during this off-peak season. Crowded during the summertime, attractions such as the St. Lawrence Market and Aga Khan Museum are a must-see, as well as the Art Gallery of Ontario, designed by Frank Gehry. Also known for being a hip, cool city, daily Toronto life is seen in its cafes, bars and art galleries, where its population of young professionals and entrepreneurs hang out.
