BBC America's latest original series, "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency", features two main characters that starts off their relationship extremely fast-paced.

E! News said that Todd (Elijah Wood) and Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) met in a mid-car chase. It also shows how Dirk is driving fast in a blue sports car with Todd, a complete stranger as his passenger, and eating a piece of pizza.

Curious about what a holistic detective is? Don't fret, Todd is confused too.

"I'm very glad you asked me that, Todd," Dirk replied when Todd asks him that very question. "The term 'holistic' refers to my convictions about the fundamental inter-connectedness of all things. I do not concern myself with such petty things as fingerprint powder, telltale pieces of pocket weapon, inane footprints," Dirk explains, adding, "I see the solution to each problem as being detectable in the pattern and web of the whole."

"Moreover, the word 'holistic' needs to be met either with understanding or cynical rejection. By definition, holistic means 'characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole'."

"Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency' is based on the novels of the same name, written by Douglas Adams, and was adapted into an eight-part series by screenwriter Max Landis.

Adams invented Dirk Gently, a self-described "holistic detective", who doesn't look for fingerprints or DNA evidence to solve his crimes. Salon also said that he is also not a genius or keen observer of details.

Viewers' love towards Dirk Gently will depend entirely on their relationship to all things holistic. It will also test the fans' love for Adams, who made the comedy and science fiction "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."
