For a true dog lover, ditching your fluffy cuddle buddy to soak up the sun in The Bahamas seems, just sad. Scout sure would love to run on that beach and lay in the sand with you. Mr. Wiggles would kill to be laying in that king sized hotel bed nuzzled under the blanket watching reality TV shows in your lap. For those who want to take their pooch on vacation, Animal Planet has compiled a top five pet friendly cities list of American destinations that welcomes your furry friend.

1) Portland, Oregon
Portland is known for beautiful scenery and a laid-back vibe. With a plethora of parks that your dog can roam in off leash and natural attractions such as the botanical gardens, it's an ideal place to take your pup.

As far as where to stay, The Hotel Monaco is ideal with state of the art pet amenities including everything from a pet psychic to masseuse. 

2) New York, New York
Oh New York. Our electric city that literally never sleeps is pet friendly? Apparently yes, very much so. The Muse Hotel offers a Pampered Pooch Package and has a canine court with an obstacle court. Or take your dog on a tour of Manhattan and spend the day in Central Park or Brooklyn's Prospect Park where your dog can swim in their swimming pond.

3) San Diego, California
San Diego is known for sun and surf. With miles of beautiful beaches it's a great place to take your pet, especially to San Diego's Dog Beach. Take your pet to Terra, in the Hillcrest Community for some puppy pizza and gourmet sausages.

4) Colorado Springs, Colorado
With more than 10,000 acres of public parks, beautiful scenery and lots of outdoorsy activities for your pooch, Colorado Springs is an ideal place to take a pet vacation. Pets are allowed in many of Colorado Springs attractions including  the Manitou Cliff Dwellings and the Bear Creek Nature Center.

The Broadmoor Hotel is one of the City's best pet-friendly hotels with a spa, fitness center and special bedding, food bowls and treats for doggies.

5) Orlando, Florida
Orlando is home to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World. Not only is this a fun place to visit for the family (who doesn't love Splash Mountain?), local accommodations are overwhelmingly pet friendly. Theme parks will pet-sit while you get your fill of Space Mountain and The Haunted House, for only about $15 dollars per day. Disney, is also planning a pet resort in the future which would include luxury suites and a doggy day camp.
