Justin Bieber, Skrillex (electronic music producer), and the group of co-writers behind Bieber's 2015 hit song "Sorry," is being sued by Casey Dienel (who presently performs and records as White Hinterland). Dienel filed a lawsuit over the resemblance of Bieber's song to the "Ring the Bell" track of Dienel - that was unleashed in 2014 as part Dienel' album, Baby.

In White Hinterland's lawsuit, it cited that Bieber's "Sorry" is rooted in the "unique characteristics of the female vocal riff" that opens her track "Ring the Bell." As the vocal riff can be heard from the first 10 seconds of "Ring the Bell," and an echoing vocal riff of the song's melody is repeated throughout "Sorry," TMZ reported.

"The people who collaborated Bieber's "Sorry," did not acquire a permit from an authority to use for this exploitation of my work, nor did they obtain or seek my permission," White Hinterland wrote a message on her official Facebook account on Thursday. "Yesterday afternoon, I filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement against Justin Bieber and the other responsible parties."

White Hinterland stated that her legal representatives tried to initiate contact with Bieber about the alleged infringement, but the Canadian singer's crew ignored them. And when the American singer-songwriter invited Bieber's camp to have a private discussion about the issue, Dienel said that they didn't take no notice of her again, as reported by NY Daily News.

However, The Verge stated that White Hinterland was firm on her decision to pursue legal action against Bieber. As Dienel was left with no other option, she believed that she has an obligation to stand up for her music and art.

"In making original and unique music is the passion of my life, but it is challenging and time consuming," Dienel wrote. "Throughout my music career, I have worked very hard to preserve my independence and creative control, thus it came as a shock to hear my work has been made full use without my permission."
