On Sunday, at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, the Canadian singer The Weeknd took home eight awards. The artist's awards includes Top Hot 100 Artist, Top R&B Artist and Top R&B song for his track - "The Hills." The song of The Weeknd - entitled "The Hills," laid out for six weeks at the top of Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2015.

As stated by News Week, aside from The Weeknd, the singer-songwriter Adele was the event's other big winner with five awards. Adele also took home the biggest prize of 2016 Billboard Music Awards - Top Artist award. Where Adele smacked down The Weeknd, the "Love Youself" singer Justin Bieber, the famous American singer-songwriter - Taylor Swift and the Canadian rapper - Drake.

However, as Adele is on her Adele Live world tour in Europe, the singer was not able to attend the event, but collected her awards with video messages thru the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Adele's multi-platinum album "25," was named the Top Billboard 200 Album. The singer also won the Top Female Artist. And the 28 year old singer debuted her latest "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" music video at the ceremony.

Billboard reported that the Barbadian singer Rihanna won the Billboard Chart Achievement Award (Fan-Voted). Justin Bieber got the Top Male Artist award. The Top Country Song goes to Thomas Rhett for the song - "Die A Happy Man." The song "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth won the Top Hot 100 Song.

The American hip hop recording artist  - Fetty Wap, was the winner of the Top New Artist. One Direction came out to win the Top Duo/Group and Taylor Swift is Billboard's Top Touring Artist. Drake won the Top Rap Artist and the Top Rock Artist goes to the American musical duo - Twenty One Pilots.
