Country singer Shelton told Katie Cook of CMT's Hot 20 Countdown that, "It's not something anybody could've seen coming besides God, I guess, for the reason that it doesn't look like it would make sense. All I can tell you is that, it does. It just makes the most perfect sense for us and where we're at in our lives ... And suddenly, this thing just happened for the reason of some things that we were going through, and it saved my life. Period."

Shelton also stated that, "At the time, when you go through what I went through with my divorce, you never know when it's the right time to step out and say I've started seeing someone. But what I found out, for the reason that it wasn't a person from my hometown, it was Gwen Stefani that I was beginning to have this relationship with."

On the other hand, the country singer discussed on Today about his first songwriting collaboration with the "Hollaback Girl" singer, entitled - "Go Ahead and Break My Heart."

Shelton said that he wrote half of the piece to impress Gwen. When Shelton sent the song which was half done, Stefani wrote the next verse and sent it back to him. And Shelton stated that their collaboration was just "crazy."
