Over 100 Hawksbill Turtles will be released by children back into their natural habitat following several months of rehabilitation at Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah. The event is going to be hosted by Kris Fade from Virgin radio.

For the first time the annual summer turtle release carried out by the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP) will be open to the public, announced the company in a press release.

The company also said that the entry for the event will be totally free which is going to take place at the Madinat Jumeirah on Friday a 8:30 a.m. Children's entertainment and refreshments will be available as well as parking at Mina A Salam.

According to the press release, another race which will take place in Oct. when six rehabilitated satellite-tagged sea turtles (two Green Sea Turtles, two Loggerhead Turtles and two Hawksbill Turtles) will be released back into the Arabian Gulf.

Each tagged turtle is sponsored by different properties of Jumeirah group. The event is going to use satellite technology to track the location of the turtles and will decide which turtle traveled the farthest will be announced as the winner of The Great Jumeirah Turtle Release. 

Dubai's only turtle rehabilitation project is collaboration between Jumeirah's Aquarium team and the Wildlife Protection Office, with essential veterinary support provided by the Dubai Falcon Hospital and the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory. The project started in 2004 and has rehabilitated and released over 554 endangered sea turtles. This year alone, the project received and has rehabilitated over 250 sea turtles.
