Nora Ephron -- acclaimed filmmaker, screenwriter, novelist, playwright, journalist, and author -- died on Tuesday of pneumonia, which was a complication of her acute myeloid leukemia. In her many different careers -- which also included being a director, producer, and blogger -- she was known for her humor and honesty.

With films like When Harry Met Sally…, Sleepless in Seattle, and Julie & Julia, and her play Love, Loss, and What I Wore, she's worked with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Upon her passing, many of Hollywood's A-list commented on the loss. According to US Weekly, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, who met on the set of Sleepless in Seattle, said that "She lifted us all with wisdom and wit mixed with love for us and love for life" and that she "brought so much joy to all who were lucy enough to know her." Billy Crystal said, "I was very lucky to get to say her words," and Nicole Kidman called her "smart, warm, and funny." Justin Timberlake took to Twitter to pay his respects, calling her, in part, "charming, witty, full of heart." Meryl Streep also weighed in, telling the New York Times, "She was an expert in all the departments of living well."

A woman who made her living with words, Ephron left behind memorable quotes of her own. She summed up her life in a six-word biography for Larry Smith's book Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoires by Writers Famous and Obscure with the following: "Secret to Life, Marry an Italian." Though she'd been married twice before, Ephron spent the last 25 years of her life married to fellow author Nicholas Pileggi. Other quotes from her books and movies can be found here

She has three younger sisters -- all of whom are writers -- and two sons, Jacob and Max with ex-husband Carl Bernstein.
